Information we collect
We collect only what Steeple actually needs to help you find and connect with a church. Here's exactly what that is:
| Category | What's included |
|---|---|
| Account | Email address and password, handled by our authentication provider. |
| Profile | Display name, bio, city, school, avatar photo, favorite verse, and your selected home church — all optional beyond what's needed to create an account. |
| Discovery preferences | Worship style, church size, ministries, and priorities you select so Steeple can suggest churches that fit. |
| Saved activity | Churches you save, visits you plan. |
| Messages | The content of messages you send to, or receive from, a church through Steeple's messaging feature. |
| Church claim requests | If you claim a church listing on behalf of that church: your contact email and any notes you submit. |
If you claim and manage a church's listing, anything you add on that church's behalf — photos, ministry descriptions, events, volunteer opportunities — is stored as public content about that church, not as your personal data.
What we don't do
Your device location is used only on your device — to sort churches by distance and center the map — and is never sent to or stored on Steeple's servers.
We don't sell your data, run advertising, or use any analytics or tracking software. Steeple has no ad network, no analytics SDK, and no third-party tracker of any kind.
Your saved churches, planned visits, and discovery preferences are private to your account. Other people using Steeple can't see them. A church can only see your name and photo if you actually send that church a message.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, and let you sign in.
- To show you church matches based on the preferences you set.
- To let you save churches, plan visits, and pick up where you left off.
- To deliver messages between you and a church you've chosen to contact.
- To let a church you've claimed manage its own public listing.
- To respond if you contact us directly for support.
We do not use your information to build an advertising profile, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond running the features described above.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active — we don't have a reason to hold onto it beyond that. If you delete a saved church, planned visit, or conversation, it's removed from view immediately. If you ask us to delete your account entirely (see the next section), we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to retain something by law.
Your choices
- Access and update: your profile, preferences, saved churches, and planned visits can all be viewed and edited directly in the app.
- Remove saved items: you can unsave a church, cancel a planned visit, or delete a conversation at any time from within Steeple.
- Delete your account: email us at the address below to request full deletion of your account and personal data. We're working on an in-app option to do this directly — until then, an email request is the fastest way.
Children's privacy
Steeple is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit and database-level access controls — to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to keep only what each part of Steeple actually needs.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
